Kitchen 3: Chef Adolfo's Place (Part 1)


For Mark's Birthday in 2007, Julie arranged for Mark to work in the kitchen of their favorite chef in New Orleans: Chef Adolfo Garcia.  Mark and Julie first discovered Chef Adolfo's restaurant, Rio Mar, in 2001.  Rio Mar is a Latin American seafood-themed restaurant. On June 1, 2006, Chef Adolfo opened La Boca, an Argentine steak house literally around the corner from Rio Mar.  Both restaurants are within 3 blocks of Mark and Julie's New Orleans home.

On March 17, Julie, Gayle, and two our our New Orleans friends will be enjoying a Chef's table meal at one of Chef Adolfo's restaurants.  The difference between this and other "Chef's Table" experiences is that Mark will be working with Chef Adolfo to prepare the meal.

Mark will spend the entire day with Chef Adolfo, beginning with going to the markets to select fresh ingredients for the day's meals, developing and writing the menu, selecting appropriate wines for each course, prepping, cooking and serving the meal. After the experience, we hope to post some photos of Mark in "his" third kitchen at Chef Adolfo's.

If you haven't heard of Chef Adolfo, you will.  In December 2006, New Orleans Magazine named Chef Adolfo "Chef of the Year" in New Orleans. You can read the article here.

Chef Adolfo's Place (Part 2)


It is Monday night, March 19, 2007. I am back in Ohio.  Saturday, I spent a good part of the day with Chef Adolfo, and spent the evening preparing a special meal for Julie and and a couple of friends. You may view a copy of the special menu Chef Adolfo and I created here.  Over the next couple days I will be putting together a report on my day with the Chef.  As I write it, I will post it here.
