Mark and Julie first started going to New Orleans in 1990, drawn by Jazz
Fest. Having fallen in love with the city, they began to visit more
frequently and stayed longer. Finally, in May 2004, they made the
decision to "settle down" in the place they love. Mark and Julie
purchased a one-bedroom condo in a 100-year old former sausage factory at
the corner of Magazine Street and Julia Street in the heart of the Warehouse
District (now also known as the Arts District). Within blocks of a
half-dozen fabulous restaurants including their two favorites, Rio Mar and
La Boca, an extraordinary Italian restaurant called Tommy's, and even Emeril
Lagasse's original Emeril's, Mark and Julie's New Orleans home has hosted a
number of parties and dinners--not quite on the scale of their Columbus,
Ohio, place--but with the same type of frenetic food experience.
At about one-third the size of the Columbus kitchen
(smaller, even, than the kitchen at their former Columbus home), Magazine
Place offers a number of challenges. But the stainless steel
appliances and granite countertops do feel like home.
